What is ANN?

Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is a research hotspot emerging in the field of artificial intelligence since the 1980s. It abstracts the neuronal network of the human brain from the perspective of information processing, establishes a certain simple model, and composes different networks according to different connection methods.

Artificial neural network consists of a large number of nodes (or neurons) connected to each other, each node represents a specific output function, called the activation function (activation function). Each connection between two nodes represents a weighted value, called a weight, for the signal passing through the connection, which is equivalent to the memory of the artificial neural network. The output of the network varies depending on how the network is connected, the weights and the activation function. The network itself is usually an approximation of some algorithm or function of nature, or it may be an expression of a logical strategy.

In the last decade or so, the research work on artificial neural networks has been deepening and has made great progress, and it has successfully solved many practical problems that are difficult to be solved by modern computers in the fields of pattern recognition, intelligent robotics, automatic control, prediction and estimation, biology, medicine, and economy, etc., and has demonstrated good intelligent characteristics.
